In the West Bengali district of Purba Medinipur, Tamluk, close to Kolkata, there is a Hindu temple called Bargabhima Temple. It is roughly 85 kilometres from Kharagpur and 87.2 km from Kolkata. The NH-6 and south eastern railway tracks provide excellent access to it. In the Purba Medinipur district, this temple is a significant historical site. The maharaja of the Mayor dynasty constructed the ancient Hindu Kali temple, which is 1150 years old. The Mahabharata mentions this location as a possession of Bhima. This temple is regarded as Mother Durga’s 51st Shakti Peth, the location of Sati’s dislocated left ankle. The West Bengal government has designated the temple as a heritage site. The current temple was rebuilt following Bengal’s Middle Ages Islamic domination, hence it is not very old. The temple was repeatedly referenced in traditional Bengali literature. The temple is a fusion of three cultural groups: Bengali, Buddhist, and Hindu. On Durga Puja and the Bengali new year, the locals celebrate greatly in this temple.

সুপ্রসিদ্ধ বর্গভীমা মন্দির উচ্চ ভূখণ্ডে অবস্থিত। পশ্চিমমুখী এবং ২২-সোপানবিশিষ্ট। দেউল সপ্তরথ’ ও সংলগ্ন জগমোহন ‘চারচালা’ রীতিতে নির্মিত। সম্মুখভাগে নাটশালা। বড় S-দেউল ও জগমোহনের মধ্যস্থলে ‘অন্তরাল’ ও ‘যোগমণ্ডপ’। চার দেওয়ালে টেরেকোটা সন্নিবদ্ধ। কালের শাসন মেনে অদ্যাবধি মন্দির-সংস্কার হয়েছে অগণিত অসংখ্যবার। এই উপাসনাগৃহ প্রাচীন কীর্তি বিশেষ। শিল্পনৈপুণ্য অপূর্ব। বর্হিভাগ বাংলার স্থাপত্যকলার অনুগামী নয়। অনেকাংশে ভিন্নরীতি। বড় দেউলে ওড়িশী প্রভাব সুস্পষ্ট। তবু ‘বেকি’ অংশ সামান্য বর্তুলাকারে উর্দ্ধমুখী, আমলক’ অতি ক্ষুদ্র। উপরিভাগে কনক-কলস স্থাপিত। ‘স্তূপশীর্ষ দেউল’ অভিধায় আখ্যাত করেছেন পুরাতত্ত্ব-বিশেষজ্ঞগণ। ভেতরে ঢুকলে মনে হয়, ছাদটি যেন একখণ্ড বড় পাথর কুঁদে তৈরি করা হয়েছে, কোথাও জোড়া আছে বলে ধরা যায়না। প্রবেশপথে মর্যাদামণ্ডিত তোরণ।

গর্ভগৃহে পূর্ব দেওয়াল সংলগ্ন সুউচ্চ বেদীতে মা বর্গভীমা অধিষ্ঠতা। দেবী এখানে ভীমারূপা, তাই তিনি বর্গভীমা। তাঁর ভৈরব কপালী বা সর্বানন্দ। এক-শিলা প্রস্তরে দেবীমূৰ্ত্তি দৃশ্যমান। তিনি চতুর্ভুজা, শবোপরি অসীনা। দক্ষিণ হস্তে উর্দ্ধে খড়্গা, নিম্নে ত্রিশূল। বামহস্তে উর্দ্ধে খর্পর, নিম্নে নৃমুণ্ড
